Practice Description
Ms. Eliadis is Director of Public Policy and Public Education at the Ontario Human Rights Commission. Prior to joining the Commission in 1995, Ms. Eliadis was President of the Canadian Human Rights Foundation, Canada's first non-governmental organization dedicated to human rights education. She also practiced law in Montreal in the areas of litigation and immigration after which she served as a special advisor on secondment to the Government of Canada on immigration and refugee matters, including gender persecution, resettlement and refoulement. As Chair of the Quebec Bar Association's Immigration Section, she lobbied the government on a range of issues such as liberalization of policies respecting work permits and the elimination of new fees imposed on permanent residents. In 1985, she co-presented the submission of the Canadian Jewish Congress to the Commission on War Criminals Resident in Canada. She has lectured and published widely in the areas of human rights law, immigration and governance in the not-for-profit sector and co-edited International Human Rights Law: Theory and Practice with Irwin Cotler. Ms. Eliadis serves on several boards, including the Board of Directors of Moot Court Canada and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. |
